Lighting Up Vanuatu with Clean, Affordable Solar Power

Sunpak is a renewable energy company founded in 2024 with a clear purpose: to transform Vanuatu’s energy landscape by providing reliable, affordable, and sustainable solar power. We design, finance, install, and maintain solar systems for schools, hospitals, businesses, households, and rural communities — helping reduce energy costs, increase reliability, and promote long-term sustainability.

Our Story

Sunpak was founded by Mahyar Roushan, a project manager and entrepreneur with more than 23 years of experience in construction, land development, hospitality, and trade in Australia and Vanuatu. Since moving to Vanuatu in 2011, Mahyar has worked extensively in community development, supporting schools, hospitals, youth programs, and agricultural projects.

This hands-on approach to development inspired Sunpak’s philosophy: create practical, win-win models that empower communities while delivering strong financial and environmental returns.

Our Solutions

We serve our customers and investors through a three-tier model:

• Institutional Tier (Schools & Hospitals): Large-scale solar + battery projects that cut electricity bills by up to 50% immediately, with full system ownership after repayment.
• Residential Tier (Homes & Small Businesses): Affordable packages (5 kW & 10 kW) financed through microfinance partners, giving families predictable repayments and long-term independence from rising grid costs.
• Rural Community Tier (Villages): Mini-grids that power entire villages for as little as ~12 AUD per person/month, delivering long-term investor returns and community transformation.

Our Impact

Every kilowatt of solar installed by Sunpak produces 1,752 kWh of clean power per year, avoiding 473 liters of diesel and 1.27 tonnes of CO₂ emissions — the equivalent of planting 60 trees annually.

Our projects free up millions of vatu for schools and families, improve education and healthcare, create local jobs, and advance Vanuatu’s Green Energy Roadmap toward 100% renewable power.

Why Sunpak?

• Proven Track Record: Projects delivered for schools, resorts, factories, businesses, and households.
• Service Commitment: 5-year warranty and mandatory 4-monthly maintenance ensure reliability.
• Trusted Partnerships: Collaborations with technology partners, finance partners, the government and the community
• Community First: Local staff trained in installation, administration, and service to build capacity and create jobs.

Our Vision

To make Vanuatu a nation powered entirely by renewable energy — where every school, household, and village has access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable electricity.

The philosophy

  • Decentralised by design.

Rather than centralising generation and distributing it from a single point — which creates dependency — SUNPAK installs generation at the point of consumption. Each school, household and community controls its own power.

  • Community energy sovereignty.

Systems are financed to communities, not rented to them. Over the term of each hire-purchase agreement, ownership transfers to the school, household or institution. The asset stays in the community, permanently.

  • Infrastructure must reduce the cost of living.

SUNPAK's measure of success is that its clients pay less for better power — not that the operator accumulates assets. A contract a client cannot sustain is a failure, not a sale.

  • Assets stay local.

Equipment, warranty stock, and operational capability are held in Vanuatu. What SUNPAK builds, Vanuatu keeps.
